The Orkney and Shetland Museums worked together on a project that celebrated the maritime heritage of both island groups. The project was put together by Catherine McCullagh and involved local heritage groups, enthusiast and the Orkney resident Shetland born artist, John Cumming.

The aim of the project was to create an online museum, focusing on artefacts from the Viking Age to the 19th and 20th centuries. It includes text, images, film and song by Dr Sarah Jane Gibbon.
It is a treasure trove of island seafaring history and the connections with Scandinavia and the Baltic Sea. You can follow the link below to reach the site.
